Robbers raided a 9 MGD filter plant at Jamadoba late on Thursday, July 20, and looted iron parts worth about Rs 5 crore.
The criminals carried out the incident by tying up the Jhamada guards and staff stationed in the factory. But soon after, the Jorapokhar police caught an Omni car loaded with looted components along with the driver. All the other robbers managed to escape.
Power plant personnel said a group of a dozen robbers ambushed and captured three employees, including security supervisor Lalan Singh, at 1 a.m. on Thursday.
After breaking the lock of the shop, he looted several parts including the engine block and loaded them in the car, and started running towards Bhagabandhu via Lahargoda.
Only then did the staff inform Ashutosh Rana, the junior engineer of the plant. After that, Rana informed the Jorapokhar police.
Station Master Vinod Oraon stopped the car showing readiness. Seeing the police, all the criminals abandoned the car and ran away. The driver of the car was detained by the police.
Drivers with stolen parts are interrogated by the police in custody. JE Ashutosh Rana of Plan arrived at the Jorapokhar police station and identified the parties. Station Commander Vinod Oraon said raids are underway to arrest the absconding criminals.
